Why Road Management Matters
We often take roads for granted – until they fail, when everyone notices just how vital they are. They are the essential lubricant in every society, connecting people and supporting every economic and social activity.
Without good roads, economic activity begins to seize up, adversely affecting businesses and the delivery of public services and leisure activities. Their construction represents an enormous public investment in a country’s future; and like every other type of asset, they require constant maintenance. All this costs a vast amount of public money to achieve. And yet, their benefits for society are far greater still.
But good roads don’t just happen: they need to be planned, designed, constructed and maintained; and adequate funding plus organisational capacity is needed to support each one of these vital activities. This is where I can really help. The benefits of getting this right, to the economy, society and the environment, are vast.
My Story
I have over 40 years of experience in dozens of countries, working as an independent road management consultant, providing a wide range of technical assistance (TA) consulting services, training and workshop facilitation, for public and private sector clients, with the objective of increasing capacity development in the transport sector and particularly, in the roads sub-sector.
I bring a wealth of international experience in the most important areas of road asset management, to help national and local governments agencies to protect their huge investments in road infrastructure; ensuring their communities achieve the biggest benefits from these assets and the maximum returns on the funding available.
My Approach
Over a period of more than 40 years, I have worked in over 40 countries around the globe, covering almost every region. This has led to a truly global perspective and appreciation of the importance of different cultures and values in issues of good governance and how roads can be managed.
As an independent road management consultant, I provide an unbiased, honest and comprehensive assessment of how the roads sub-sector is governed and how this can be strengthened and sustained, covering both long-term strategic issues.
